The Otay-Tijuana Venture LLC has plans to build a cross-border facility that will connect a terminal in San Diego (in Otay-Mesa) the Tijuana Airport. Airline passengers would park in the U.S., check their bags at a proposed  65,000 sq foot terminal, walk across a 500-foot pedestrian bridge across the U.S.-Mexico border, and board a plane at the Tijuana Airport. The current length of the built bikeway is about 13 of the planned 24 miles (not including the two spurs on Saturn Boulevard and up to H Street from Marina Parkway). The San Ysidro Port of Entry is the busiest land border crossing in the Western Hemisphere. It processes approximately 50,000 northbound vehicles and 25,000 northbound pedestrians per day. Currently, there are 6 soutbound lanes and 24 northbound lanes. A recent SANDAG study estimates an 87% increase in vehicular traffic in San Ysidro by the year 2030. Continue reading
